Stretching across southern Utah from the edge of Zion to the plateaus of Bryce Canyon, Dixie National Forest is a vast and diverse landscape of ponderosa pine forests, alpine meadows, and red rock canyons. At over two million acres, it’s the largest national forest in Utah and a vital part of the region’s ecological and cultural heritage.
Within this expansive wilderness lies Pine Valley, a beloved mountain community known for its cool summer refuge, historic architecture, and access to trails, fishing, and family recreation. It’s a place where generations have come to reconnect with nature and each other.
In 2023, the Zion National Park Forever Project proudly expanded its mission of stewardship to include operations of the Pine Valley Heritage Center, deepening our commitment to public lands beyond the park boundary. Through educational outreach, interpretive programs, and community engagement, we are helping tell the stories of Pine Valley’s past and ensuring its future remains vibrant and protected.
Dixie National Forest reminds us that the beauty of Utah’s wildlands extends far and wide—and it deserves the same care, passion, and promise we bring to Zion itself.
